A Passion for Students, A Commitment to Service
It has already been more than 100 days on the job for new IPFW Chancellor Ron Elsenbaumer when he spoke at last Monday’s club meeting. The Pennsylvania native and Purdue graduate came back to his alma mater in November 2017 to assume the leadership of an institution he believes is ready to “launch into the future.” The campus is now home to three new schools: School of Education (under the new College of Professional Studies), School of Polytechnic and School of Music (Purdue’s only school of music). Last month Purdue University Fort Wayne and Sweetwater officials announced a partnership locating a majority of the university’s music technology program on the Sweetwater campus. That facility is expected to open in August 2018, prior to the university’s fall semester and first day of classes. Chancellor Elsenbaumer introduced Jerry Lewis to club members as the interim vice chancellor for communications and chief marketing officer for the university as it continues with a realignment to become Purdue University Fort Wayne (pending Higher Learning Commission approval) in the coming months.

The Chancellor spoke of enhancing career services and internship opportunities for students and elevating degree offerings mindful of the needs of the region’s employers. His next steps with the university include strategic planning, reaccreditation, remaining an NCAA Division I school in athletics, continuing partnerships with IU, working with the legislature to ensure adequate funding, and enhancing student housing, campus life and community engagement. The goal is educating and training students for long successful careers. His excitement is evident in an open letter on the IPFW site,“My first 100 days have truly been an eye-opening experience, and each day has proven to me that I made the right decision in joining the Fort Wayne community and becoming a member of the Purdue Fort Wayne family.”
