Fort Wayne Community Schools has created a centralized location for critical support services for its students and families. Called the Family and Community Engagement Center, the building opened two years ago and houses services that are a gateway to better learning.

 

Faye Williams-Robbins, the center’s chief officer, reported that the district’s educational and community services programs meet about 90 percent of students’ needs. For the remaining 10 percent who require additional services – anything from more rigorous academics to health care options – the F.A.C.E. Center is the place to visit.

 

Many services are housed at the center, which is located on East Douglas Street in downtown Fort Wayne, near the Grile Administrative Center and the Anthis Career Center. Services include:

 

“We have to take the time to know each student so we can help each one,” Williams-Robbins said. “We have students whose needs are not being met. When you’re worried about where you’re going to sleep at night or when you’re going to get something to eat, you can’t focus on school.”

 

Williams-Robbins said the center is a community collaboration supported by local foundations, businesses and organizations. With 29,000 students in FWCS, a centralized district support center is a much needed and used resource for students, their families, their teachers and our community.

Christian Wolff is the newest club member! In an introduction by Rotarian Ron VerLee, we learned Christian spent 20 years in Portland, Oregon, prior to coming to Fort Wayne. Christian is a psychotherapist who grew up in Kansas and whose mother is from Wabash, Indiana. He has many career accomplishments and also has traveled the world, is an artist and has been a film reviewer for a local film festival. Christian is an author and executive co-director and co-founder of HARBR-USA, the Healthcare Alliance for Regulatory Board Reform.  

 

 

 

 

Holli Seabury was surprised as the newest Paul Harris + 1 Fellow, when Jeff Peat announced that an anonymous donor offered the recognition to Holli for her work with the club’s international projects.
