The celebration is designed for 7-9 AM. Enjoy your coffee and a mimosa before breakfast but the meeting bell will be rung at 7:30. Members are encouraged to come early so they have time to look at the timeline exhibit that will be on display. You will have the chance to see where we started and how much we have contributed to the community both locally and internationally. It is a time to say well done Rotary Club of Santa Rosa Sunrise and look to the next 30 years of contribution and fellowship.

Del's 24/7 efforts are not always visible, but always impacting: He schedules weekly Greeters, Thoughts for the Day, Silent Greeters, organizes the popular annual Progressive Dinner, arranges special meeting regalia just to name a few. Scenically nestled in the eastern Sonoma Valley, The Barn witnessed on one of the hottest days in Debunking history, a COOL aquatic farewell to President Eloise 2015-2016 year. Orchestrated by Past President Harry Coffey, the celebration was comfortably venued indoors with fabulous smoked chicken, pork tenderloin and pulled goat stew from nearby John and Ardis Jones.
The highlight of event, icing on the cake of fun and fellowship was the debut ~ and sunset ~ of Mike Kelly's AquaRotarians. AKA Flo, Harry, Paul, Jim and Marty, their dry-land synchronized routine.
Strength, agility, trust!
They even look cool in 100F!!
Following the entertainment, John and Ardis led a guided tour of their goat ranch.

Kyra Allen is an inspiring young lady. Diagnosed at 17 months with a form of leukemia. Kyra spent much of her childhood in and out of small hospital rooms. Devoid of character, the bland sterile rooms protected her compromised immune system, yet left her spirt and creativity undernourished. She developed a keen sense of spatial relationship between mental and emotional health. As Kyra gradually gained strength, her deep gratitude grew and she discovered many ways to express it in creating and giving. She and her family prepared hot meals and delivered them to the needy at holiday time. Kyra also found fulfillment as a Docent at the Charles M Schulz Museum, in it's Lego Animation program.
Sunrise Rotarian Ross Andress introduced Kyra, just graduated from Maria Carrillo High School. Ross is the Club Advisor for Elsie Allen High School Interact Club.
Kyra's strong inclination to give back impressed the Sunrise Rotary Scholarship Committee to award her a $1,000 scholarship in memory of Michael Scott De Shields. Michael was the stepson of Past Sunrise President Kent Seegmiller.
Congratulations Kyra! President Eloise Tweeten presents Kyra her scholarship. Best wishes in your continuing path of discovery and service as you attend Arizona State University, pursuing studies in Interior Design.
Jack Strange, new Sunriser as of this month is doubly excited about his membership: He is setting a record on the time between Induction and Craft , on his way to earning his Blue Badge. Jack also comes in as Past President of the Evening Rotary Club, offices he and spouse Eloise held concurrently.
Jack's ability to rapidly adapt were evident as his Mac generated PowerPoint did not load on the Sunrise PC. Unphased, Jack proceeded to weave the fabric of Rotary in his life. Serving as his previous club's Membership, Admin and PR chairs~~ simultaneously. When offered President Elect, he declined. He continues with the District as a Public Speaking Trainee, and strategic planner. From his teaching post in San Rafael he justifiably boasts of the school's successful policy debate team, often outscoring college teams. He organized the Charter Interact Club at his school, St Isabella, now 77 Interactors strong.
With a sprawling metro area, Atlanta gets a bad rap for its traffic. But the city’s downtown is home to a variety of pedestrian-friendly attractions, so when you’re in town from 10 to 14 June for the 2017 Rotary International Convention, a little curiosity is all the fuel you’ll need.
Walk out front of the Georgia World Congress Center, the convention’s home base, and you’ll practically stumble into CNN Center, the birthplace of 24-hour TV news. CNN studio tours last about 50 minutes and offer a behind-the-scenes look into broadcasting.
Across the street, soak up some sun at Centennial Olympic Park. Once the central gathering place for the 1996 Olympic Games, the park is now a great place to check out a free water show at the Fountain of Rings, one of the most photographed landmarks in Georgia. Nearby is the World of Coca-Cola, where you can sample more than 100 drinks from around the world, and the Center for Civil and Human Rights, where you can view the personal effects of American civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.
For sports fans, a short stroll down Marietta Street will take you to the College Football Hall of Fame, where you can view helmets and trophies of your favorite college teams and take in exhibits like the Game Day Theater, which offers a behind-the-scenes look at game day through the perspectives of former players and coaches.
When Brad Rubini was reading a bedtime story to his seven-year-old daughter, Claire, she asked him why he was reading the words wrong.
“I’m dyslexic, so I thought I was reading the words right,” recalls Rubini, a past president of the Rotary Club of Toledo, Ohio.
After he explained his problem, she began to read to him on most nights instead. “She was a voracious reader and storyteller. She was always telling stories, even when she was a toddler,” he says.
Three years later, while Claire was away at summer camp, she died unexpectedly as a result of a heart ailment. Rubini and his wife, Julie, channeled their grief and honored their daughter’s love of reading by creating Claire’s Day, now one of Ohio’s largest children’s book festivals. Since 2001 the event has grown into a weeklong celebration that includes visits by about 15 authors and illustrators to 32 area schools. The week concludes with a book festival on the third Saturday in May, near Claire’s birthday (May 24). Claire’s Day operates with a budget of $60,000, funded through corporate and community donations, including about $5,000 from area Rotary clubs. The 2016 event was expected to reach up to 27,000 children and families.
“The goal of mine has been to have Claire’s Day be in Rotary clubs all throughout the world,” says Rubini, who is now the literacy chairman of District 6600 (Ohio). “It’s not that hard, and the reward of it is so tremendous.”
