Our speaker last week was Priscella Locke, the Director of Development and Communications of the Sonoma County Humane Society. Also in the audience were her colleagues, Catherine, Megan and her dog, Harvey. Priscilla discussed the mission of their animal shelter, which rescues, rehabilitates, and supports animals in Sonoma County and the North Bay region. the Humane Society was formed in 1931 by prominent citizens such as Ruth Finley and has a legacy of caring for neglected farm animals.  Now, they serve domestic animals. She explained the shelter's medical programs, including a shelter medicine program, a spay/neuter clinic, and a community veterinary plan, as well as their efforts to care for animals' mental well-being. The shelter also offers training classes, adoption services, and outreach programs to help pets and their owners. She emphasized the importance of volunteers and described various ways people can get involved, including programs for young volunteers.

The presentation covered various topics related to animal welfare and the operations of a local humane society. Priscilla discussed the importance of microchipping pets, the process of handling stray animals, and the society's history of caring for both companion animals and farm animals. She also addressed the challenges of managing animal surrenders and the need to follow jurisdictional guidelines. The conversation ended with Q&A.

At our previous club meeting Steve Herron gave us an update on the raffle results.  He was still locking in how many tickets our top sellers sold.
