Santa Rosa Honors Veterans


 
 

The Color Guard advances through the capacity audience.  Veteran's Memorial Building in Santa Rosa has standing room only last Wednesday as hundreds met to recognize veterans and remember military campaigns, careers and stories.

The event is sponsored annually by Santa Rosa Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs.  Attendees span multiple generations.

Mark Kratz from Santa Rosa Junior College sang "America the Beautiful", skillfully.

Captain Paul A. Flynn, U.S. Coast Guard delivered an inspirational tribute to all Veterans with an account of Bernie Webber, U.S. Coast Guard, and his legendary rescue mission of the tanker Pendleton, recently featured in the film "The Finest Hours".

At 84, D-Day Paratrooper Don Clouston still wears his  uniform as proudly as he did when at just 17 he jumped in WWll, a member of the 101st Airborne Division

Stories told, memories shared brought generations and thoughts together.
