Our Speaker for Thursday, May 19, 2022, was Stephanie Pasche, SCORE’S Director of Field Operations. SCORE is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping small businesses get off the ground, grow, and achieve their goals. SCORE’S mission is to create relationships to help aspiring business owners into their dreams! SCORE is a resource partner of the Small Business Administration.
SCORE provides free or low cost training to small businesses, often start-ups, using a variety of programs, including webinars, workshops, seminars, local events, business planning, and free business templates. Its impact has been tremendous: In 2021 alone, SCORE helped 141,599 clients served across 326,000 mentoring sessions; 280,732 attendees in 9,628 local workshops; and 241,897 attendees in national workshops. It helped 25,000 new businesses, assisting in the generation of 71,000 non-owner jobs! SCORE has over 10,000 volunteers and is present in every state. SCORE’s clients are diverse; 56% of clients are women and 44% are minorities.
The Coronavirus-19 pandemic resulted in a surge of interest in business creation. Greater than 2 in 10 employees started freelancing during the “Great Resignation.” These new business creators needed lots of help developing their ideas into businesses, and SCORE saw a resultant upsurge in its demand. SCORE volunteers benefit by being recognized partners in local development, feeling good knowing they are helping others to achieve their goals, making new friends, and growing professionally.
