Dave Ryan - Upton Financial - Current Trends in the Sale of Businesses

Dave's topic was “Current Trends” in the sale of businesses.  He has had years of experience helping broker deals between buyers and sellers of businesses and gave us inside information about what’s trending in the field.  Dave emphasized that business sales trends are key economic indicators.  He gave us some of the key categories by size of business. For example, ‘personal services’ is the top type of business in the under $2,000,000 annual sales category.

Manufacturing is the most common industry in ‘above $2,000,000’ category.  Dave’s key point on Thursday: In a recent survey, 83% of those surveyed believe that even though the market for business sales is strong now it will likely ground to a halt by 2020.  Dave thought this result was especially troubling given the usual upbeat attitude of the groups surveyed.  The results of the survey are certainly an ominous sign of future economic uncertainty!  Even though the “weather” may be turning bad, many thanks to Dave for getting the word out to us in his thoughtful and enlightening presentation.
