Interact Summary from Merle, John, Logan and Trinity
Past President Merle Hayes, assisted by members of the Elsie Allen High School Interact Club, Trinity, John and Logan, provided us with an insightful review of the many activities of Sunrise’s Interact Club over the past year. Merle is the Club’s Interact Coordinator and led the discussion (aside from the fact that Logan, John and Trinity “took over” large portions of the meeting!). Did you know that there are 468,556 members of Interact globally? Or that there are 20,372 chartered Interact clubs? Some of the key goals of Interact are to connect with leaders in the community and around the world; take actions that make a difference; discover new cultures; and have fun and make friends (of course).
Merle’s summary of the “Interactors’’ activities this year revealed a stunning level of engagement! They put over 535 hours of service into our community in the past year! They seem to have had a major activity at least every month, including participation in the Community Fair, Food Bank, Club Day on Elsie’s campus, Redwood Gospel Thanksgiving Dinner, building bikes at the Volunteer Center, replacing native grasses at Pepperwood Preserve, buying clothes for the Valley of the Moon Children’s Center, and tree planting at Comstock Park.
This program is impressive! The kids seem to love this work, jump into it with open hearts and a willingness to improve the lives of others, and with a charitable spirit that we do not typically associate with teenagers. They are led to these feats of impressive social engagement by Merle Hayes, a host of Sunrise volunteers, and the dedicated Doug Gibson, a math teacher at Elsie. Thank you, Merle, Trinity, John, and Logan for this valuable update of your activities and for doing this wonderful work! Well done and keep it up!
