Mark Parry, Architect & Historian : "Frank Lloyd Wright: Man Myth and Architecture"

ImageA 30 minute character study of the life of American most famous architect.

"God approved of my work, not my life", quipped Wright to an associate.  "This is my life" he confided to an Apprentice as Wright rushed between a burning section of his home and his sparred studio.

Our presenter Mark Parry put the professional career and personal life of Frank Lloyd Wright into a historic context: Born during the United States Post Civil War reconstruction- Victorian era and dying within the Atomic Age.  Wright was a romantic genius, he influenced architecture more than anyone else in the last 500 years. Wright introduced innovative design, dubbed "Organic Architecture", what we call Green Building.  Talliesan West in Scottsdale AZ incorporated natural airflows to enhance cooling, The Imperial Hotel in Tokyo survived a horrific earthquake and fire with its' foundation features and water pools which sustained survivors from the surrounding ruins. Wright's family motto:  "Truth Against the World" aptly described his volatile life.  His professional accomplishments are indisputable.  His family-personal life legacy he grew to regret.  He described his dilemma best with these words: Honest Arrogance is Better then Hypocritical Humility.

Mark's program gave us an enlightened view of an American enigma.
