Madeleine Keegan O’Connell, Chief Executive Officer,

YWCA Sonoma County – the leading provider of domestic violence services in our community.

 

ImageMs. O’Connell was formerly Vice President of Marketing for Sonoma Bank in Santa Rosa where she managed community relations and non profit support for the organization. Her career in the marketing and public relations arena of community banking spans 28 years and two coasts. For over a decade she has served as a member of the Advisory Board and Chair of PR/Media for the capital campaign of The Salvation Army – Santa Rosa Corps where she was named “Volunteer of the Year” in 2009.  She leads a staff of 30 and is responsible for the sustainability of a $1.6 million dollar budget. Madeleine and her husband, Kevin reside in Santa Rosa along with their boys, Johnny age 4 and Nicholas age 2.

In 35 years, YWCA has become Sonoma County's leading provider of services to quell domestic violence.  Handling over 3000 calls annually, the YWCA has developed resources to both treat and prevent abuse.  At the center of their services is a remarkable 3 story Victorian house which shelters up to 27 women & children for up to 8 weeks in an intensive stabilization phase.  Following this initial adjustment, an additional 2 years of after care support is available to participate in.

Overcoming confusion, embarrassment, fear or shame may inhibit seeking help from abuse.  Individual and group Counseling, employment guidance and extensive community resources assist survivors break the cycle of violence through improved parenting and social skills.  Recently the century old Victorian was retrofitted with a modern HVAC system through the generosity of Indoor Environmental Services.  This enhancement improved the year-round climate comfort.
