Sunrise on Parade

Following weeks of planning, hours of preparing and a few thorns in the thumbs, Sunrise Rotary's collaborative entry in this year's 122nd Annual Luther Burbank Rose Parade garnered Second Place in the non-profit division.

Lead builder Leroy Carlenzoli's experienced float construction background kept our creative entry afloat and together during the semi-damp event. Marilyn Lira, Santa Rosa East Rotary President lends an approving smile.

Punctuated between the California men and women's Amgen Tour d California Bicycle Races, the Rose Parade schedule was a challenge to all the entrants and organizers.  Superbly synchronized by all Sunrisers and Elsie Allen Interactors, the crew completed the finishing touches on time to roll into the colorful, musical cavalcade.

Re-cycling into the Future was this year's theme, and was creatively demonstrated with bike wheels curiously resembling Rotary Wheels!  Members brought their homegrown roses and greenery, gloves and warm wraps to transform Leroy's trailer and framing into an award winning float.

Sunriser's Del Raby, President Eloise Tweeten, Jennifer Adams and President Elect Meryl Hayes preside over the pride of Sunrise Float:  Re-Cycle into the Future> The 111 years in Rotary nearly equal the Parade's 112 year run!

The day was a record showing of Santa Rosan's agility, creativity and teamwork!  Kudos to all who rose to the occasion.  See you next year!!
