Interact at St. Isabella’s School in San Rafael took their motto abroad, demonstrably in Costa Rico last Spring.
Led by Sunriser Jack Strange, Teacher and Club Advisor at the School, a nucleus of the Club invested nearly a week of their Spring vacation renovating an outlying school playground during Project CEN.
Interact at St Isabella is 75 strong, creative, dedicated, young women. Their current Co-President was born in Costa Rico, generating an International interest there. Jack informed us that “Interact” stems from the two words international and action.
Chartered in 2013, St Isabella’s club has a unique leadership model: Each board position has two “Co” leaders, allowing for collaboration and smoother succession. The school’s age range is 12-18.
In addition to the work at Abbey Montessori School in Costa Rico, St Isabella has an ongoing music sharing project with a Senior Residence in Sonoma, has planted hundreds of restoration trees near Middleton, and establishes supportive relationships with child cancer patients at St Jude’s Hospital.
Quietly, yet with exquisite fluency, these Interactors are Ambassadors of amazing Goodwill and Better Friendships, here and abroad. It is no surprise that with Jack’s leadership, this Club was recognized as the 2019 Outstanding Interact Club in District 5150! So much so, that District Governors now include visits to the Interact Clubs, underscoring the importance of our mutual goals and opportunities to engage and learn from each other.
