Waiting for "The Candidate"

Above, Membership Chair Marty Behr awaits the arrival of Robert Redford's appearance in the 1972 Academy Award winning film "The Candidate."

Robert did appear, portraying the California candidate for U.S.Senate, Bill McKay.  Marty arrived at St Francis Winery very early, and with the help of Marina Gatchet, Eloise Tweeten and Rich Randolph, secured excellent seats for the dusk showing.

Joining the moviegoers were Marina's friend Michael (he packs a great picnic), Jack Strange, Carolyn Anderson and hubby George,  Betsy Randolph, Cindy Gillespie and friend.  From Marty's fine spiced chicken, Michael's chocolate and strawberries, Betsy's cheese and exclusive St. Francis wines for those so inclined, an evening under a full Valley of the Moon moonrise, sated everyone's appetite, say nothing for the fans of Robert Redford, 44 years the younger.

For the film historians, the Oscar was for best Writer, and one scene was filmed in Santa Rosa's own Howarth Park!
