The Program From September 29th - Sonoma County Association of Rotary Clubs
Last Thursday night Sunrise Rotary hosted a great SCARC (Sonoma County Association of Rotary Clubs) meeting at the Union Hotel in Rincon Valley. The meeting was well attended by 44 Rotarians representing 10 or 11 clubs; from Sunrise Rotary were President Nominee Cindy Gillespie, Dave and Shauna Lorenzen, Del Raby, Eloise Tweeten, Lori Rodrigues, Marty Behr, Paul O’Rear, Penny Millar, Randy Seelye, Rich Randolph, Rob Sanville, Stacy Drucker-Andress, Steve Herron and Steve Zwick.
The Master of Ceremonies was President Jack Strange and the program for the evening was given by our own I.T. Shaman, Peter Hoberg. After 45 minutes of socializing a wonderful Italian dinner was served and the meeting called to order.
Each club gave a synopsis of upcoming notable events- fundraisers, service projects, social events- before Peter entertained the crowd with a great summary of the best practices, he and we have learned in two years of conducting hybrid meetings. He invited suggestions from the audience of what make hybrid meetings advantageous as well as challenging. He offered some of the humorous background noises one hears on Zoom calls; “You’re breaking up!”, “You’re on mute!”, “I can’t hear you!”, “Who said that?” and “Was that your dog?”. He offered tips on how to keep those online engaged and how to make sure those present in person didn’t forget those on the Zoom screen. Peter provided a list of electronics to be schlepped to and from meetings and closed with his “4 P’s of Hybrid Meetings”- Planning, Protocols, Priorities and Patience. The talk was very well received with ongoing audience interaction with suggestions and questions. Sunrise Rotary rocked District 5130 again!
