Sunrisers in Sabalos Nicaragua

President Marty Behr with his daughter Ajae Clearwater prepare to fly from Managua to San Carlos to commence their maiden venture to the Rio San Juan region in Nicaragua to provide vision and dental services during Sunrise's  biennial missions.

President Marty was curious why pickles were contraband along with hand grenades!

New, savory food is a great part of the missions.  Fish is very fresh.  Pairs well with local cerveza:  Toña or Vitoria?  Paul O Rear reported the trek to the clinic was a 4x$ total advwnturew, with the driver (unmasned, but native) had to get a running start six times to successfully ascend a muddy slope!

Providing ongoing support are local friends of Sunrise, Ninoska above and husband Rafael who do advance work for our team and operated our base camp in Sabalos, Casa de Yaro, a lodge sited right on the banks of scenic and sonic Rio San Juan.

Sunrise Rotary has been conducting projects in the remote underserved areas of Rio San Juan for over 10 years.  Inspired by Rotarian John Jones, and supported by many Santa Rosan's and Rotary partners.  Each project year reaches over 1,000 people in need of vision and dental care.  A surgical center in Sabalos is nearing readiness to provide acute care and Ophthalmic surgery.

Newbie Ajae Clearwataer took the helm of the Refractometer first day on her first day! On this first day, 270 people received a new, clearer outlook!!
