An update on homeless issues in Sonoma County

 
 

Shirley and her District Director, Michelle Whitman provided detailed information on the homeless issues in the County and a summary of the steps that are being taken to address those issues.

Topics presented included:

  • Statistics on the make-up of our homeless population

  • Comparisons to homeless issues in similar sized Counties

  • Housing shortfalls

  • Providing info on protecting the homeless during climate events

  • The need for additional funding to address these issues

  • What is being done now and what needs to be done long-term

  • What has worked successfully in other areas

The conclusion is that we have a long way to go and need to strive to provide more housing units for those that need them.
