A Tale of Two Gavels
Is a president really president if he does not have his very own gavel?
Evidently a president can preside with a gavel on loan, as President Rich has done for his entire presidential year, until... on the final meeting of his reign, he was presented with his own, personally engraved gavel. Why and how this occurred is a torturous tale that involves Past President Peter Hoberg, whose gavel Rich has been using, and a lapse on the part of the current administration.
One may have presumed that being presented with your own gavel at the end of your administration could be an indication of a second term...? But no. The soon-to-be-past president went quietly off to his debunking, marking the end of his presidential service, clutching his souvenir gavel, as a remembrance of his gavel-less year.
