Wow, that was the best Debunking I’ve ever been to (a sentiment each departing President undoubtedly says)! I can’t thank enough all the people who put the event together – Marty for organizing, Harry for emceeing, the team that “decorated” me, Dave/Peter/Warren for the great 35th Birthday lookback and 2020/21 slide show, Kent for making sure there was didgeridoo entrance music, all the PP’s with their……………interesting gifts, the food, it was all great. But best of all was just “getting’ the band back together” and having a Rotary “meeting” once again after a 16-month hiatus. It was a raucous, fun and funny event and I will never forget it.
In case you weren’t able to make the event I wanted to make sure that everyone knows that Santa Rosa Sunrise Rotary nailed it over the last year- give yourselves a collective pat on the back. While many clubs couldn’t figure out meeting online, and dwindled, shrank or merged, Sunrise Rotary thrived and it is the result of a proactive Board that made sure a little pandemic wasn’t going to ruin our year. We had the most successful fundraiser in many years netting $60,000 for the community; we were involved in nine service projects during a year-long shutdown (vs. eight that we budgeted); we welcomed six wonderful new Rotarians into the club; we opened the doors to our signature service project in Sabalos, Nicaragua; and we had hikes and online social events. Thanks to Marty for setting up the contact groups to keep people connected to each other, thanks to Cindy and her team on the Speaker’s Bureau (Dick Perman, Kent Seegmiller and Michael Riel) for excellent speakers week after week, thanks President Jennifer for keeping us active in the community and thanks Peter, Dave and Warren for keeping us close to each other with Zoom meetings, the internet connections and pictures. Can you imagine what Jennifer’s year is going to be like when Sunrise Rotary is unleashed and unrestrained?? I can’t wait to find out!
