Santa Rosa Sunrise Rotary President's Message at the Holidays

Dear Fellow & Sister Sunrise Rotarians,
This 2-week break from my preparing for Club meetings has allowed me the time to reflect on the first half of my year as Club President. It has been an eventful one – enjoyable and (sometimes) enlightening meetings, lots of successful Rotary service projects and social activities, and an occasional power outage or wildfire thrown in to keep us on our toes.
We were pleased to welcome 3 new members – Mary Banks, Max Childs (returning) and Dick Perman (returning). We regret that Jeannine Sheppard decided to leave the Club due to work commitments and five children (three at home); she has asked that we stay in contact, so she can participate in some of our programs.
We are going to open the second half of Rotary Year 2019-2020 with a Club Assembly. This is often taken as a signal to sleep in! But this Assembly is going to have some exciting announcements and important discussions, including:
Election of Officers and Board Members for 2020-2021 – Presented by Harry Coffey, the head of the Nomination Committee of our 5 past presidents.
Club Operations Financial Report – Presented by Treasurer Penny Millar.
Philanthropy – Review of our contributions in the first half and committed for the second half – Presented by Carolyn Anderson, our Philanthropy Chair.
Announcement of Two Large Outside Contributions – One to the RI Foundation Polio Plus – Presented by Scott Holder; and one to our Club Foundation – Presented by John Jones & Paul O’Rear.
Santa Rosa Sunrise Rotarian of the Quarter – Presented by Marty to one of our outstanding members.
Club Constitution Change – For consistency with the RI Constitution – Presented by Doug Shureen.
Engagement – The leaders of some of our most important programs need help. Each member will be asked to assist in one or more of these programs.
Membership – Recruitment & Retention
Service Projects – Existing & New (including organizations each of you are passionate about)
April Fundraiser – Organization, Promotion, Auction
Interact – Ongoing & Programs
SRKSEP – Incoming Students this Summer
Speakers – Recruitment
Development – Donations to RI & Club Foundations
Thank-you to all of the board members, program chairs and meeting & bulletin workers that make the job of being President so much easier. And thank-you to all members for their goodwill, which makes leading the meetings less intimidating.
At the last meeting, several members mentioned the way they meld Christmas, Hanukah and December birthdays. Someone mentioned Christmakah as their meld. In our family, with several December birthdays, and both Christmas and Hanukkah traditions, we have celebrate HANNABIRTHMAS!
No matter what you name it, HAPPY HOLIDAYS & ALL THE BEST IN THE NEW YEAR. Marty
