These collection sites provide precisely the environmental protections hoped and advocated for in the documentary film Microplastic Madness, shown recently at Summerfield Theater as part of Rotary's Focus on Environmental Sustainability. The film chronicles awareness and advocacy by Fifth Grade students in New York. Their campaign to reduce plastic pollution resulted in elimination of disposable plastics in school lunch packaging throughout New York City Schools.
These local bins are evidence that it significant change can begin in non-elected cohorts, even some too young to vote, but not to young to give voice to issues of universal concern.
