"What's Polio?"

Every night of the 350 mile "Pedal for Polio" bike ride, that Sunriser Peter Hoberg recently trekked, he had dinner with a Rotarian who lived along the way. One evening, a child at the dining table asked, "What's polio?" This question, more than any statistics or report, speaks to the success of the Rotary International focus to eliminate polio from the face of the earth, within the lifetime of our generation. A disease that many of us remember fearing as kids because of its crippling effects on children, is now virtually unknown to a new generation.
Bob Rogers, District 5130 Governor and a polio survivor, led 12 other bikers on the ride. Sunrisers Jim and Cindy Kirkbride joined the bikers on their last leg. Sunriser Randy Seeley is collecting the $4,410 that has been pledged by Sunrisers in support of Peter. Rogers reports that Peter is a hell of a rider.
