Preventive Practices
Last week's presentation by Dr. Javier Fonseca provided up to date statistics on the global COVID19 pandemic. He offered clarification of some national and international public health strategies.
The majority of Javier’s time was devoted to how we can protect ourselves and those around us by the proper use of PPE~ Personal Protective Equipment. especially facial masks.
He emphasized the importance of tight fit, facial hair interferes and reduces effectiveness. Masks may be homemade and if washable material, reused. Youtube has many examples. Proper handling and disposal or storage of masks worn in social distancing areas need special handling, such as placement in ziplock bags.
in regards to gloves, they are no substitute for hand washing and may lull one into a false sense of security, forgetting that they can transfer contamination .
Articles brought into the home need packaging disinfected.
