School Brings Hope

Above, Jan Coulter, local Accountant and Advocate for Education introduced Nwe Sin yo, LuLu for short. LuLu is one of her coeds who graduated from Minmahaw School in Thailand. Sunrise Rotary has been supportive of the school and was delighted to meet and hear from this graduate of the school.

LuLu spoke of her strong drive to learn and give back to her native Myanmar. Minmahaw School was founded in 2007 for students from Burma, most of them children of political prisoners. It is situated in Mae Sot, Thailand, which is on the Thai/Burma border.
The school has held as many as 60 students. The 2019/20 academic year, which began June 4, has 40 students currently enrolled.
Students come from many different parts of Burma/Myanmar and many ethnicities are represented at Minmahaw School.
Nwe Sin Pyo, also known as LuLu is currently a math major at Beloit College in WI and will graduate Spring 2020. A young American volunteer teacher at Minmahaw, helped LuLu apply and get accepted at Beloit.
She has aspirations of completing a Masters Program, perhaps in the United States and after she has returned home to use her math and science skills to work for a period of time.
Stay tuned for updates on this exceptional, inspiring student and teacher!
