What better way to commemorate our successful International fundraising event than to recognize three new Paul Harris Fellows!
Dave Lorenzen, far right, presents Krisandra Jones, Rafael and Ninoska Praslyn their Paul Harris Fellow recognition . Honoring a $1000 contribution to The Rotary Foundation. Their generosity provides funding toward local District and International projects such as saxaphone for Elsie Allen High School and medical equipment in Nicaragua. Krisandra is John Jones daughter-in-law, Nicaraguans Rafael and Ninoska are our partners in developing the Sabalos Surgical Center.
Past President Eloise Tweeten confidently stood in for President Doug, handling the gavel with seasoned timing.
Randy Seelye proudly announced his invitation to celebrate the Pulitzer Prize award at his previous employer, The Press Democrat. In a field of big league papers such as the New York Times, Houston and Florida daily's, the Press Democrat won for its' coverage of our fires in October last year. Randy was Newsroom Editor for 32 years.
Jeannine Sheppard, Mortgage Financing with Peoples Home Equity, guest of Penny Millar shows the fun to be found at Sunrise Rotary.
John Jones introduces his guests Rafael and Ninoska Praslyn, strong friends of Rotary in Nicaragua, who spoke on their gratitude for the Sabalos Surgical Center.
Ninoska Praslyn points out how severe conditions can be in accessing medical care in the Rio San Juan region of Nicaragua. Too often patients choose not to attempt treatment due to their apprehension to travel so far for care.
Rafael expressed seep gratitude for Sunrise Rotary's ongoing mission trips for dental and vision care to the remote Rio San Juan area. Rafael has been a local partner in coordinating our clinical and logistical details.
Liz Colbert shares her Craft Talk, nearing her Blue Badge promotion. A Birmingham, northern Michigan native, "Lizzie" is an adventurous, tenacious and confident do-it-yourselfer. Liz and her Architect husband remodeled their San Diego home - with the help of his and her combined 9 children! After retiring to Ashland, Oregon, Liz participated in a myriad of community activities. Her background in Public Relations positioned her very well in many projects.
