Sunrise Rotarian Shares His Sunshine Hopes!!

Rolf Wessman, Sunrise Rotarian for over 15 years has been advocating for research in the field of ALS, known also as Lou Gehrig’s disease.  For the last three years Rolf himself has been experiencing first hand the effects and challenges raised with this progressive neuromuscular disorder.

Last year Rolf challenged then club president Harry Coffey to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.  Harry bore the pour of frigid water and helped garner hundreds of dollars towards research as the challenge spread to other local Rotary clubs.

In a recently announced breakthrough from two John’s Hopkins researchers:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ea4l_Wo-vcA, those research funds appear to be paying hoped for dividends.

In the photo, Rolf is flanked by current club president Eloise Tweeten, and last year’s Harry Coffey.  The symbolic frame of advocates represents the power in Sunrise Rotary to GO  F A R T H E R  TOGETHER

Last week, Sunrise President Eloise Tweeten accepted Rolf’s challenge and donned her synchronized swimming cap and suit to brace for her icy bath.

Local efforts inspired by courageous advocates like Rolf are generating an ever increasing tipping point in the race to discover the pathway to better treatments, and one day a cure for ALS.

Rolf has a special offer for more Ice Bucket Challengers:  Warm up in his poo!!
