Doug's Final Hurrah!

Clad in a coat donated by club members to ensure that he never gets fined (again) by a judge for coming to court without proper attire, almost Past President Doug Shureen says farewell, holding his plaque with Rotary Wheel and gavel.  Doug wears sunglasses in keeping with the "Survivor" TV series theme of the event.  Needless to say everyone happily voted Doug "off the island" of the Santa Rosa Sunrise Rotary year presidency.

A truly great time was had by all that attended Doug's debunking at the Northwood Restaurant in Guerneville.  Sunrisers and their guests sporting a variety of tropical and casual attire, appropriate for the warm weather as well as the rugged outdoor event theme.

Past President Merle Hayes did a magnificent job planning and producing the debunking which included a comprehensive review of the highlights of Doug's year -- discussed and observed in great detail -- followed by a substantial meal of ribs that sustained all survivors.

Board members and others that contributed to the benefit of the entire club were recognized and thanked. Treasurer Penny Millar, a valued board member,  took her turn at the mike to review a two month segments of the past year's achievements.

Leroy Carlenzoli received special recognition as Rotarian of the Year for his outstanding architectural, carpentry, plumbing, landscaping and general services for several of the community programs supported by the club.

Rich Randolph, incoming president, wearing special protective headgear, watched in anticipation of the beginning of his year, hoping to survive it as well as Doug.

Outgoing and incoming board members were divided into opposing teams that competed for survival.  Orange and black stripped bandannas were worn by Doug's team and black and white by Rich's team.

Outgoing team captain Doug, led off the first challenge, weaving his way through obstacles to pass his pitcher to the next relay team member without spilling a drop!

Ritualized tests of skill (?) and chance resulted in tense competition between the two groups of board members.

The traditional art of wine-making by foot-stomping proved which president's hammer toes were most efficient.

Congratulations to Doug for a great year and best wishes to Rich for his year!
