Sunrisers Scoop Colgan Creek Clean
In the line up getting prepped for assignment are Sunrise Environmental stalwarts led by Chair Paul O'Rear at last Saturday's Colgan Creek litter sweep, coordinated by Laguna de Santa Rosa and the City of Santa Rosa.
Searching with his grabber and big bag in hand Olin Leasher cleared the way to lots of litter along the creek bed between Costco and Petaluma Hill Road.
Our group split east/west with another group heading in places underground in culvert tunnels beneath Santa Rosa Avenue and US 101.

Max Childs greets the photographer with a smile of satisfaction and full bag of junk. Steve Amend and Rob Sanville retrieved a shopping cart to transport their loot. Jim Gray dug out a bicycle; all debris which would restrict normal water flows. Check out Max' boots!
Everyone had a good cache of non-native stuff: Cans, paper, even forewarned of syringes which were properly disposed of in sharps containers.
This bright yet shady area was popular. Megan and Stacy found ample stuff to add to their creels. Further upstream Peter Banks scaled the bank in search of scraps, agily negotiating very uneven terrain. The half mile trek was a great par course type workout.
Steve Zwick, Penny Millar, Dave and Shauna Lorenzen and Jim Moir complimented the robust retrievers. Efforts were nicely rewarded with cool drinks, apples and brownies to replenish energy. Paul will have more Environmental projects in the near future, engaging Rotary's newest focus area, our environment!
