Go Out & Play!!!
Four hundred people a day, (not all of them children) visit Sonoma County Children’s Museum and demonstrate what children know to be a universal truth: Going out to play is healthy & wise. Museum founder and Director Collette Michaud has researched the value of early childhood play in creative and cognitive development. The CMSC, recently recognized as THE BEST children’s outdoor museum on earth by an International Architectural group offers both indoor and outdoor imaginative learning, enhanced by “Playologists”, volunteers trained in guiding discovery through play. Recently completed indoor interactive settings include a hardware store, dental and medical lab, beehive and actual former Life Flight helicopter.

Collette has integrated community involvement well into the museum schedule. Individuals, whether an MD teaching kids about medicine, or a Bee Keeper explaining hives, or the ingenious, Quercas Choir from Bouverie Preserve singing instructive songs about trees and bugs, CMSC has a full schedule of “crazy awesome science”. Wonder Camp teaches introduction to circuitry, robotics, puppets and much more. School field trips have booked the museum for the entire year already.
In just two years since opening it’s outdoor flowing model Russian River complete with simulated fish, and hydraulic devices for water play Children’s Museum Sonoma County has brought play and learning to 185,000 visitors. In 2014 Sunrise Rotary underwrote a Community Free Admission Day. It is well worth the price any day, and an annual unlimited family membership is just $145.00.
