Measure for Measure Details

Founded 25 years ago as a rating "report card" service on elected officials, voting, and responsiveness to voters, the Sonoma County Conservation Association (SCCA), headed by Executive Director Kerry Fugett, brings transparency to political issues and advises voters on election options.  The organization is focused on reviewing environmental issues and advising on sound development practices, such as issues affecting the Russian River and the development of the Smart Train.

Measure J proposed a 1/2 cent tax to support open access to lands that were voted for preservation 15 year ago, but are currently not accessible to the public.  If passed, this measure will transfer the lands from open space designation to regional park status.

Twenty-five percent of these funds will be used to create trails, 20% for improvement of existing trails, 15% for preservation, 10% for parks usage and 30% for safety.  This 10 year tax roll out, planned to offset funds expected from park fees, is directed at unincorporated areas and will not affect residents of Santa Rosa.  The measure requires a two thirds majority vote.

Measure K will reinstate a measure protecting agricultural lands between cities that was voted on and instated in 1996 but is scheduled for "sunset" this year.  This measure will protect the separation of city and agricultural lands for the next 20 years and will discourage housing development in rural areas where costly infrasctucture would be required.  It does not require a new tax.
