Interact & Costa Rica

Originally, the term “Interact” was Rotary’s contraction for a mission description “International Action.” For more than a year my club, the Interact Club of St. Isabella School had been planning to go beyond local community service and turn ourselves into an “international service club.” Last April, during our Easter break, fourteen Interactors traveled to Costa Rica to participate in a joint service project with the Interact Club of Lincoln School in San Jose, the capitol city. Our goal was to assist in the painting and restoration of an urban elementary school’s campus and outdoor play structures. We also raised funds to assist in purchasing new structures that couldn’t be fully restored. But most important, we made new friends and showed we cared about these wonderful little kids. We also formally established an international sister-club relationship that will endure for many years to come. This is our story.
