Santa Rosa Sunrise Rotarians were shaken by the killing of George Floyd in June of 2020, one of a series of killings of Blacks by police and vigilantes.  At Rotary, we  denounce racism, celebrate diversity and demand ethical leadership.  Our Club has a 35-year history of providing volunteer time and grants to both community and international non-profit organizations, serving people of all races and nationalities.  We are committed to bringing people together to do good in our community and the world.  While we have evolved over our 35-year history, we know we have more work to do individually and as a Club to help create a more just, open, diverse world.

With that in mind, our January 14 program will focus on educating our Club members and guests about the history of Blacks in America since the advent of slavery in 1619, through slavery, Jim Crow, the Civil Rights Movement to the present day.  This will be done through a video by noted historians, comments by members of our Club, and a review of the actions of Rotary Intl regarding Black Lives Matter.  We plan to organize a Black Lives Matter discussion group following the program, open to all interested.  Follow-on programs and other actions will take place later.  Please join us.
