Rotary Efforts to End Polio

Past District Governor Bob Rogers of Sebastopol, a strong advocate for Rotary International’s efforts to end polio worldwide, is the guest speaker at the Santa Rosa Sunrise Rotary Club meeting on Nov. 14.

Rogers, a polio survivor, led the Pedaling for Polio bike ride when he was district governor in 2017-18, and again last year.  

When Rogers was district governor, RI President Ian Riseley’s theme was “Making a Difference.”  And as RI Secretary John Hewko said recently,  “We are on the verge of leaving the world a gift that will last for as long as humans inhabit this planet.”  A planet free of the polio virus …. How’s that for “Making a Difference”?

Bob joined the Sebastopol Rotary Club in 2007, and years later joined the district PolioPlus Committee under Chair Larry Myers.  Now Bob is taking a major role in speaking to clubs about eradicating polio. 

Bob spent his career as an airline pilot, retiring from USAirways.  He says Rotary is his second career.
