August 5 - Arrival Day
Visit Journal - Daily Updates
Sunday afternoon, 9 students and 1 chaperone arrive at the San Francisco International Airport, beginning a 2 week whirlwind adventure in Santa Rosa. All are participants in 2012 SRKSEP, the Santa Rosa Kagoshima Student Exchange Program. Chaperone Kumamoto Tomohito was joined with 8 of the students, Taishi Kawano, Saya Okazaki, Rumi Fuchida, Rina Sato, Kengo Maeda, Yudai Ibusuki, Satoko Fujikawa and Iroha Maeda. They were all greeted at the airport by host families Amends, Lorenzens, and Leashers. Earlier in the day, due to a scheduling change, one student, Kiko Furukawa, arrived early at the SFO Airport and was greeted by their host family Rebecca Dixon (prior SRKSEP participants).
On the way home, most of the travelers stopped at the vista point to get a great look at the Golden Gate Bridge. Very typical San Francisco weather at the point, looked beautiful, but with a wind that made it feel like you were in the Artic.
After the visit for pictures at the point, the group traveling with the Lorenzen Family, were hungry, so a stop at Pasta Pomidoro was required for the boys, Taishi, Kengo and Yudai.
All of the students were delivered to homes in Santa Rosa where the remaining host families were met, Millars, Grays and Hayden (prior SRKSEP participants).
Tomorrow starts all the local touring........................
