Railroad Square Business Association
Jan. 25, 2018
Railroad Square is the historic heart of the downtown and is Santa Rosa’s “Old Town”. Railroad Square was honored with a listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 because of its preservation efforts for restoring and preserving the significant architectural buildings that represent the influence the railroad had on a community. When the first trains arrived in Railroad Square in the 1870’s, the focus of the town turned to the hustle and bustle around the Depot. Railroad Square is excited to announce the return of the passenger train in the Fall of 2016. Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) is a voter-approved passenger rail and bicycle-pedestrian pathway project located in Marin and Sonoma counties. It will serve a 70-mile corridor from Larkspur to Cloverdale, with a first phase from San Rafael to Santa Rosa, the main Santa Rosa station being in Railroad Square. |

Ehtical Bee Removal
Mar. 01, 2018
We are located in Santa Rosa. We serve all of the North Bay including Petaluma, Sebastopol, Sonoma County, Marin County and even the East Bay occasionally. We are a member of the Sonoma County Beekeepers Association, and our commitment is to do what we can, individually, and as a business, to help the plight of the honeybee. Our heart is in our work and we believe what we are doing is a good thing for the bees and for the environment. If you hire us to take your bees away alive, without killing them, you will participate in that paradigm and know that you are doing your part to help the environment, and especially the honeybee. Some say the honeybee is the environment's "canary in the coal mine". Sometimes it's just impossible to take the bees out alive and in that case we will euthanize them humanely. "As goes the way of the honeybee, so will man as well." Said Albert Einstein. So we should all have a selfish interest in creating a friendly environment for these amazing creatures. Protecting the genetic stocks of the wild populations is especially important. Over half of all our food depends on the pollination of the honey bee, so that's a great reason by itself to want to help them! |

Devil Pups
May 10, 2018
In 1953, Marine Corps Colonel A. Duncan Shaw, Sr., learned that a group of teenagers burned an American flag at a Southern California high school. Aggravated by this activity and the attitudes among American youth it represented, Colonel Shaw and a group of retired Marine Corps Reserve Officers, now prominent Southern California businessmen, asked the Commandant of the Marine Corps to help with a community benefit project that would aid the development of character qualities in teenage boys and girls, and enable them to become healthier and more successful young citizens. The idea was to bring these youth down to Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton and let them observe how Marines are trained and then for ten days be trained themselves by volunteer Marine escorts. The Commandant agreed that the Marine Corps would cooperate if this group of former Marines would form a charitable corporation to solicit contributions needed for food, transportation, insurance and other sustainable items which the government cannot pay for. The name “Devil Pups” was conceived after observing that the German troops, during World War I, gave the United States Marines opposing them in battle, the name “Devil Dogs” because of their battlefield accomplishments and valor of the Marines. This success and challenge under stress is a fitting precursor for the name “Devil Pups”. In summer, 1954, Camp Pendleton Commanding General John T. Selden, granted permission for Devil Pups, Inc. to bring aboard 1800 young men 14 to 17 years of age. In 1998, Devil Pups, Inc. welcomed its first platoon of girls into the program. Through the efforts of the active duty and reserve Marines working with the volunteers in the charitable corporation “Devil Pups, Inc.” the program has grown into a highly successful annual project. We now have 51,563 Devil Pups who have graduated from this Good Citizenship-Physical Development Program. |
