Molly is currently a graduate student working on a Master’s in Public Administration with a concentration in Nonprofit Agency Management at Sonoma State. Tasked with finding a nonprofit organization to use as a case study for coursework, she was grateful to be introduced to Ceres by friends upon moving to the North Bay last year. Hike along the Appalachian trail
Jul. 13, 2017
The legendary Appalachian Trail runs 2,200 miles from Georgia to Maine. It is the most difficult and most renowned long-distance hiking trail in the world. Bill Stauber, from the Rotary Club of Sebastopol Sunrise, struck out on this trail with his son, Pete, in early 2015 and hiked it from beginning to end, pledging a dollar-a-mile to Polio Plus in the process. Bill will join us on July 13th with his tales of hiking for months and months, the people he met, the sights he saw, where he stayed, what he ate, and best of all pictures of areas most of us will never see! There are nicknames for hikers on the AT and special spots that are the hikers favorites! sit back with Bill and pretend you just hiked 2,200 miles! |

The Origins of Islam
Aug. 17, 2017
Dr. Beurtheret was born and raised in France and made his home here in California beginning in 1995. His education includes a doctorate in American history from the Sorbonne and a master’s degree in European history from the University of Paris. Since 2004, Cyriaque Beurtheret has been teaching in Salt Lake City as a tenured history professor and lead professor of Western Civilization. His specific area of interest is the study of the multiple narratives formulated to describe historical events, and how they reveal the interests and objectives of the different actors involved in international relations. He is married to Cindy Beurtheret, a teacher at Montgomery High School. They have three boys He will share with us what academic scholars have uncovered in the past thirty years leading to a new understanding of the origins of Islam based on their study of late antiquity documents, modern archeological research, and use of computer analysis of the Quran. These discoveries may change our view of the world today. |

Lake County Tree Planting
Nov. 16, 2017
Lake County >> Two days after flames blasted the hills of Cobb, Hidden Valley and Middletown, Jennifer Strong was making phone calls. She was reaching out to the four separate Rotary clubs around the lake, bringing them together to form the Lake Area Rotary Club Association (LARCA). She was chasing after $50,000, which she hoped to raise for fire victims. To say the LARCA surpassed that goal would be an understatement. Over a year later and the association had received $950,000 in donations. They’re inching toward the one million mark, and they very well might hit it. LARCA never expected to reach such an astounding number. |
