Keeping Girls in School
If you build it - they will come - but how do you keep them coming back?
After years spent working on Adopt a Village projects in Uganda, it became clear to Sebastopol Rotarian
and Anthill Foundation founder Frank Mayhew that a significant hurdle to economic development is the
large number of children who abandon school before they receive an adequate education. By the end of
seventh grade 51% of boys and 76% of girls drop out, contributing to the cycle of poverty. The answer -
the Keeping Girls in School project. Frank will talk about using Rotary Global Grants to fund an integrated
approach that reduces the dropout rate and improves education by addressing sanitation, clean water, the
educational environment, and problems girls experience when they reach puberty. Get the lowdown on
what works and what doesn't, including the new Rotary Foundation guidelines for school buildings, and
learn how you can use this approach to make your education project a success.

Peter Hoberg will collect names and RSVP to Jack Blasco (jcblasco@comcast.net)
