Literacy in Action (Local Support)

All grade 5 students in the five Alliston elementary schools have been given their own dictionaries.

Throughout the month of September, Carole Jones, Kevin Quinton, and Joan Hayward distributed personalized dictionaries to 223 grade 5 students in all five elementary schools in Alliston. The distribution was as follows:

Alliston Union Public School  75
Ernest Cumberland Elementary School 51
Holy Family Elementary School  56
St. Paul's Elementary School  29
Alliston Community Christian School 12

The dictionary is the Webster's English Dictionary with Canadian inclusions and carries the Rotary wheel on the front cover. The back cover includes a description of Rotary and the 4-Way Test. On the inside front cover students find a label identifying the book, donated by The Rotary Club of Alliston, as theirs with another printing of the 4-Way Test.

We use the visit to the school to distribute the dictionaries as well as an opportunity to highlight Rotary's commitment to community service.
