Lisa Love is a stand out! One of only 3 female athletic directors among the 300 institutions in the BCS, she belongs to a very elite club. Strip away the gender distinction and she still stands out from the crowd. Less than 1/3 of the BCS schools perform at the level of ASU in all sports programs.
Lisa builds the sports programs at ASU around the premise of scholarship. The goal of her programs is the graduation of athletes and she has a success rate of 80%!
ASU competes in 21 sports. The three tenets of the sports program are:
- Scholarship
- Compete with Honor
- Strive to win national championships
Last year, PAC 10 schools won 13 conference championships. ASU took 6 of them! While we often think of the big ball sports (football, basketball, baseball) when talking of ASU, the women's tennis team is #2 in the nation and the men's golf team is in the top 10!
ASU makes every effort to provide state of the art facilities for their teams. ASU has a new indoor diving facility. They also make maximum use of their existing facilities. Last year, they relocated the bubble dome over the exercise field on Rural to Tempe Town Lake so that the rowing team could practice under cover for competition in the Rotary River Rally Cardboard Boat Regatta.
