District 5040 Annual Conference 2015

President Karen and Past President Linda attended the 2015 District Conference on behalf of the Club.  The theme was 'Water and the Moon'.  There were several very interesting speakers including:  Dr. Jaymie Matthews (an astrophysicist from UBC), Derek Kief (an astronomer from the H.R. MacMillian Space Centre), Lori Brown (a Cambodia refugee), Mike Storey (RC Ladner re water filters in Laos), Michael Lowry (Western Canada Marine Response Corporation), Dr. Lauryn Oates (women and children in Afghanistan.  There were also inspirational remarks from Shekhar Mehta (RC of Calcutta-Mahanagar), RI President Garry Huang's conference rep.

 

Congratulations to the Rotaract Clubs of Vancouver Yaletown and the Vancouver Young Professionals Club for earning the Presidential Citation.  Also, congratulations to:  the Rotary Club of North Vancouver (this years' Outstanding Club of the Year), Gloria Van Staudt (this years' Outstanding Rotarian of the Year), and Penny Offer (recipient of a meritorious service award from The Rotary Foundation).
