The Drive Community Garden is located at 12th and Commercial, in the heart of Vancouver. The project promotes urban agriculture while harnessing the healing power of nature by supporting those vulnerable in our community. It embraces sustainable food production by supporting local, urban agriculture and but it is also a partnership with local community groups that help support individuals vulnerable to isolation, such as persons with disabilities and newcomers to Canada. The project was spearheaded by the Rotary Clubs of Vancouver Yaletown, Vancouver, and Quadra. The private partners included Can You Dig It and Shifting Growth Garden Society, which contributed labour and materials, and Vancity which provided grant funding. The garden is located on land leased from a private owner. In the event that the owner wishes to regain control of the property, the garden is mobile and can be moved to another location, ensuring long-term sustainability of the overall project.
