ShelterBox
ShelterBox provides emergency shelter and supplies to communities around the world experiencing a natural disaster or humanitarian crisis. A ShelterBox contains a family sized tent, as well as cooking equipment, water purification equipment, blankets and other items. Since Shelterbox was founded, it has provided assistance during more than 270 communities in over 95 countries.
In 2012, ShelterBox became Rotary International’s first Project Partner and remains the only Project Partner focused on disaster relief. The benefits are enormous, ShelterBox receives incredible financial and logistical support from Rotarians and equally, acts as a catalyst in encouraging more people the world over to become involved with their local Rotary Club.
Natural disasters and conflict are inevitable and frequent, and the need is continuous. A ShelterBox Canada Hero is a Rotary Club that has identified the continuing need to prepare for disasters and respond at a moment’s notice. Clubs are recognized based on their total annual giving throughout the year. There are three ShelterBox Hero levels: Bronze ($1,200+), Silver ($3,600) and Gold ($6,000).
Our Club funded three ShelterBoxes which were sent to: the Philippines (to assist those affected by a tropical storm), Cameroon (to assist those affected by civil conflict), and Pakistan (to assist those affected by flooding). We have received the Bronze Hero Award for 2015-2016.
