Admiral Seymour School is one of the oldest in Vancouver, established in 1907. The school is located in the downtown eastside in a light industrial area. The school has Inner City Status and has resources to meet the educational and emotional needs of the students, including a youth and family worker and neighbourhood assistant to assist with different languages. It serves 130 children from K to Gr 7 and its students are about 40% ESL (Latvia, Africa, Vietnam, etc.), 30% First Nations and many are from one parent, Ministry care, or grandparent care families. One of the school’s popular and successful programs is the Grade 5 Book Club. The Book Club meets on Wednesdays and the teachers introduce literature to about 15 students, six times per year through a new book. The books are then placed in the library for all students to read. Our Club has provided funding for the Book Club for several years.

In late October, the school puts on an annual Pumpkin Patch event. Our Club sponsors the pumpkins and our members volunteer at the school by helping students carve pumpkins.
