President Edgar with Christina Grammenos, Aunt Leah's

Thanks to Christina, Community Engagement Coordinator, Aunt Leah's, for presentation on its new Friendly Landlord Network.  The program assists youth aging out of foster care to find housing.  About 700 youth age out of foster care each year and about 40% of homeless youth have spent time in foster care.  The program seeks to provide what all parents want to give to their kids - support.  The landlord gets market rent, pre-vetted tenants, and regular check-ins by a youth worker to ensure safety of the suite.  The program also provides life skills training and support for youth.

The program is looking for landlords with suites, apartments and other similar housing units for rent.  Christina said that one room, in-home live in arrangements are not preferred since this is the typical arrangement for most youth while in foster care. The program seeks to assist youth to move to the next level and rent their own accommodation (individually or with a roommate) as the first step to becoming independent adults.  If you know of any landlords or rental opportunities, please contact her at cgrammenos@auntleahs.org.  See the program's website friendlylandnetwork.com.
