Since 1988, Rotary has made it a priority to focus on global immunization and the eradication of polio. Rotary’s partners include the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the WHO, and numerous government agencies and non-governmental organizations worldwide. Rotary accepted a challenge from The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to raise $100 million, and then $200 million. In return, the Gates Foundation donated an additional $255 million for polio eradication efforts. In 2013, The Gates Foundation offered to match Rotary’s contributions for polio eradication 2-to-1 up to $35 million each year for five years. Rotary accepted the challenge under the banner, End Polio Now: Make History Today. By 2015, the number of polio endemic countries dropped to two. “We are this close”.
Our Club is a dedicated supporter of our Rotary Foundation and its Polio eradicating initiatives through annual contributions and fundraising campaigns.
