The speaker at the club this week was the legend football coach Wally Buono. One of the most sucessful head coaches in Canadian Football League history.
Wally Buono certainly held the attention of the crowd he was talking to, he talked about the many changes in the physique of the athletes over the years, remarking about 6' 7" 300 pound plus giants doing a standing leap over a three foot hurdle. He told us of the motivation to play came from the players themselves and not from him. He set the conditions to play in, they wanted to be there.
His post-season record is 22-16 with five Grey Cup victories in nine appearances, three as the coach of the Calgary Stampeder and two with the BC Lions.
Wally is a great talker and demonstrate what greatness is about. If you have the opportunity to hear him talk you will be inspired by his presence, I know I was.
