Nepal: Birthing Centers Built Post-2015 Earthquake
Partnering with One Heart Worldwide & Kantipur RC
Equipment & training for 16 new birthing centers
Purchased 4 portable Ultrasound Systems to travel among centers
Dharamshala, India: Save a Girl with Partner, The Global Uplift Program (TGUP)
The $3,000 cash grant funded the purchase of 400 re-useable sanitary kits from TGUP’s Nepal sewing center then shipped to Dharamshala
Rotary Club of Dharamshala distributed kits in their city & to nearby, local villages
IMPORTANT, WORLDWIDE ISSUE: If there is no access, adolescent girls miss ~20% (4 days/month) of school
UNICEF: 20-50 million girls drop out of school each year because they cannot manage their period.
Tremendous preventable loss of the world’s human potential: Being behind in school work often means dropping out, limited choices leading to lower wages (40% less than men), earlier marriages, etc.
Women’s sewing centers can be trained to produce kits, leading to income generation
Ukraine: Mobile Emergency Clinics
In 2023, LARC partnered with Rotary District 5170 to fund two Mobile Emergency Clinics (MECs) for Ukraine.
By 2024, the MECs were deployed in the Kharkiv region of eastern Ukraine, providing critical medical services in war-torn areas
Rotary MEC grants financially supported 30 Mobile Emergency Clinics as towable vans, including their required internal medical setup ready for deployment in Ukraine where needed. Additional support was provided through USAID.
