The Polio Plus Campaign
To eradicate Polio, Rotarians have mobilized by the hundreds of thousands. They are working to ensure that children are immunized against this crippling disease and that surveillance is strong despite the poor infrastructure, extreme poverty, and civil strife of many countries. To date, Rotary has contributed more than US $1 billion.
Rotary’s newest challenge focuses on the Rotary Foundation’s response to grants from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. For every Dollar donated by a Rotary member, their foundation will contribute Two Dollars (up to $70M/year for five years).
The numbers now accumulate as follows:
- Rotary Contributions - $175 Million
- Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation - $350 Million
- Total Donations - $525 Million
