The Red Badge Project

One of the things we ask new members to do is to participate in what we call a red badge project.  As with all of the other requirements on the red badge checklist, the purpose of the red badge project is to introduce new members to the club and to get them involved in what we do.

A red badge project can be either a hands-on project or a fundraiser.  It must, however, be something that results in the red badgers who are involved working together as a team.  In addition, the project must benefit a Rotary-related cause.

Here are some examples of red badge projects done in prior years:

InnVision Shelter Network Fundraiser

The Red Badgers raised funds to purchase and distribute fully loaded backpacks for 25 local junior and senior high school students who are now living in shelters or in their cars.

Foothill College Veterans “Smart Pens for Vets”

The red badgers raised funds from the community through various means, including a fund-raising party at a downtown business owned by a red badger, to purchase “smart” pens and the corresponding notebooks for returning veterans to use to take notes during class.

Indonesian Fishing Boat fundraiser

Following the devastating tsunami in Indonesia in 2004, the red badgers held a “red badge auction” at a Rotary lunch meeting to raise fund to contribute to the purchase of fishing boats to replace those that were lost in the tsunami.  The red badgers solicited donations for silent and live auctions from club members and the community.  At the meeting, club members and their guests bid on and purchased the items.
