BooksPlus Committee

The BooksPlus committee aims to close the literacy gap for underserved children, birth to Pre-Kindergarten, in our local communities. Our projects include the book cubby, LitKit, books to schools in honor of LARC weekly speakers, and Dolly Parton Imagination Library To achieve our mission: We introduce children to quality books so they learn to enjoy reading, gain knowledge, and "see " themselves in great stories. We deliver book cubbies (small book cases) to preschoolers for their homes, deliver LitKits (bags of books and early reading games) to preschoolers in temporary housing or through the Community Service Agency, and work with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library to deliver free books each month to children ages 0-5. We integrate parents, caregivers, librarians, and other role models, into our programs and projects so they understand how important it is to read to children from the start.
