This excerpt from the July issue of The Rotarian magazine profiles the 2015-16 RI president. Before he gives a speech, K.R. Ravindran doesn’t like flowery, adulatory introductions. They make him uncomfortable. The 2015-16 Rotary president would rather keep a low profile and share the credit. If it were up to him, you probably wouldn’t even be reading this article. Negotiating Days of Tranquility during the Sri Lankan civil war so that health workers could administer drops of polio vaccine? Although it was on his desk that the agreement landed, he says, a lot of people worked to make that...

More than 20,000 new cases of cancer are diagnosed every year in Sri Lanka, and many of them prove fatal. The Rotary Club of Colombo, Sri Lanka, set out 10 years ago to save some of those lives by establishing the Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Centre.  In partnership with the National Cancer Control Programme and the Ministry of Health, the center in Colombo has screened more than 35,000 patients, mostly low-income, and detected more than 7,500 cases of abnormalities that required further investigation. The Rotary Club of Birmingham, Alabama, USA, donated a mammography and ultrasound...

We heard Carin Jansen van Vuuren's classification talk last Tuesday.
Well worth the wait, Carin was focused, fun and fabulous as usual.

Visiting Canada many years ago turned into a lifelong adventure which
we are grateful for.

As one of his final Presidential duties, Pres. Steph gives Carin a token
of his obvious love and respect to his lovely wife, Carin.

The four way test token.
Best Birthday wishes went out to Morley during the meeting on Tuesday.
Perhaps another Classification talk? A true gentleman, Morley was able
to give us a rundown on people and events from 1930.

Pres Stephan, Terry Sveinson and Morley discuss the joys
of growing older and wiser.

Taste of Edmonton has been bringing delicious food and lip-smacking beverages to the heart of downtown for 31 years! It is a place to sample dishes from local restaurants and food trucks, enjoy the free entertainment as you walk around Churchill Square, grab a drink with friends in the beer gardens and visit our exclusive venues.

YESS volunteers will be onsite this year at the Beverage Oasis! We will be serving Jones Soda and Oasis Smoothies to thirsty festival guests for the full ten days of the festival (July 16 - July 25).
YESS gets paid an honorarium based on volunteer hours at the Beverage Oasis (not the Charity Tent), so let’s fill as many spots as we can!! This is great for team building, and great fun to bring friends along to help out!!

Charity Booth
  • Volunteers needed: 4
